As a teacher Matt is dedicated to awakening a sense of the new while holding down a rich tradition of groove and spirit. His private instruction focuses on technique , time, improvisation, and groove playing.

“I feel it’s important to develop fundamental technique, but my approach to teaching is mostly driven and inspired by each students individual interests.”

The Three T’s:

-Taste: What does the music need? Which ingredients can we add so things feel and sound true.

-Time: There’s always a pulse in the music wether we’re playing “in time” or not. How can we develop this pulse together?

-Touch: How are we playing the instrument? How can we approach the music from a sonic perspective addressing both the technical and emotional elements.
